Attractions
The wildlife roams in profusion and diversity.
The elephant population, estimated to number
in excess of 35 000, is the largest single
concentration in Africa surviving within the
confines of a proclaimed National
Park. During the harsh dry season, the
herds migrate south to north and congregate
along the perennial Chobe River and fertile
floodplains. The sight is spectacular and
unforgettable - red winter sunsets, elephant,
buffalo in their thousands. The quality of
timeless Africa is real and very strong and
the vistas are of an era almost bygone in
time. Other major species such as lion, square-lipped
rhino, wild dog, sable and roan antelope are
encountered in this area.
Facilities
The architecture is Moorish and graceful high
arches, barrel-vault ceilings and tiled floors
create an atmosphere of spaciousness and tranquillity.
All 45 rooms are tastefully furnished and
cooled by overhead punkah-punkah fans. For
the connoisseur of luxury, there are four
private suites each with individual swimming
pools and outside garden patio. All rooms
overlook the perennial Chobe River and adjacent
Caprivi floodplain. Facilities within the
lodge include a well-stocked curio shop, wildlife
reference library and stylishly decorated
Linyanti bar and lounge area. The Motswanan
game rangers are highly experienced and fully
committed to the continued preservation and
conservation of Botswana's National Parks
and wildlife. Through their individual knowledge
and rapport you will understand and touch
the very essence of Chobe's heritage. Your
hosts at Chobe are congenial and hospitable,
your comfort and enjoyment being their foremost
concern. The cuisine is superb, with a taint
of African flavour and variety and in keeping
with the finest resorts in the world. Venison
specialities and outside barbeques are very
much part of a Chobe experience.
Additional Information
In order to afford guests an understanding
of wildlife ecology and the Chobe
ecosystem, wildlife videos and slide lectures
are held on a regular basis in the conference
venue. Safari activities at Chobe are diverse
and exciting and tailored to suit individual
requirements. Game drives are conducted in
open four-wheel-drive vehicles, normally early
morning and late afternoon and under the leadership
of qualified Motswanan guides. The Chobe floodplain
is renown for its concentration of buffalo
and elephant and the late afternoon in particular,
provides spectacular viewing. All vehicles
are equipped with two-way radio systems, thus
facilitating optimum sightings of the major
species and the elusive "big five".
A sunset cruise down the Chobe River is an
experience that will always linger. Reflection
on still water, the cry of fish eagles, elephant
on open green plains, silence, a waning sunset
- words cannot capture the atmosphere, the
feel of Africa, the beauty of this unspoilt
landscape. The Motswanan game rangers are
highly experienced and fully committed to
the continued preservation and conservation
of Botswana's National Parks and wildlife.
Through their individual knowledge and rapport
you will understand and touch the very essence
of Chobe's heritage.
